We get mixed messages when it comes to domestic violence. The Grammys and the NFL, for example, trumpet an end to physical and emotional abuse of women, yet near daily news reports telegraph that an athlete’s or pop star’s franchise is held at a higher premium than a woman’s safety.

This will only change when enough people with a bully pulpit are joined by those out here on the ground who send the message that in order to be “cool,” you’d better not use your fists to get your way.
