Hard to know what some people wouldn’t find threatening. Write positively about the most qualified, accomplished woman in a generation – some people don’t like that. Write about why she lost an election that everyone thought she was going to win – some don’t like that either, even though, for all intents and purposes, Hillary’s political career is over. You’d think they’d be happy. Not so. You’re not even allowed to hold the mirror up. After my website had been hacked 3 times in the past year, always at a time when my words started to gain traction, I have to acknowledge that what Slate’s Michelle Goldberg wrote may be true: “Donald Trump’s Victory Proves That America Hates Women”.
As Ms. Goldberg put it:
“[Hillary Clinton’s] victory would have been a sign that the gender hierarchy that has always been fundamental to our society—that has always been fundamental to most societies—was starting to crumble. It would have meant that men no longer rule. We have to come to terms with the fact that a majority of men would rather burn this country to the ground than let that happen.”
Together with some enabling females (like NBC’s Andrea Mitchell) this is undeniable.
I guess I feel and sound like ‘bitter party of one’ at the moment, but witnessing – and experiencing – the vitriol and threatened cries of the victors, it is easy to see they don’t really feel like they won. Whatever the triumph of the status quo (white male dominance), it will be relatively short lived as our demographics continue to change. So, for the moment, I guess I’ll just share pictures of my cats. But it won’t change what happened.
And it won’t change what’s coming.

You are not a bitter party of one. It’s a huge group of us. Bitter for now, perhaps. But I know I need to get over being bitter and work to make things better. But using the anger to sustain and support it. As a parish priest I know way too much about the misogyny in this country, I’ve experienced and continue to experience it all. i say in Hillary a role model for grace and courage, stamina, and fortitude and perseverance. She still is that role model. I am profoundly grateful for your writing. Don’t stop. Continue to stand clear in what you believe and sharing it with us. We need to stand together. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Terri. I deeply appreciate your support and what you shared here.
We also love pics of your darling kitties!
I will definitely keep including them, Virginia. Lord knows, we could all use a change of pace!
Anita,
Your words are necessary now, more than ever!
I will never get over what was done to Hillary not only once but twice and for the same stupid reason — the men in power and who have the ability to affect the outcome of elections (because let us never forget that Hillary won more votes than any white male in our history). So a lot of men voted for Hillary. They can slice and dice the reasons for her loss, but it comes down to the power of misogyny and it’s willingness to “destroy the village rather than have a woman in charge of it…” What secure male would ever think that this is the correct way to deal with their inexplicable fear of women!
The loss to our country is immeasurable because rather than putting an accomplished, experienced, brilliant woman in the oval office, the power elite chose another puppet to be controlled at the expense of the American people.
I don’t want to hear a peep out of the trump supporters when trump throws them under the bus. They don’t have Hillary to blame any more…the big question is what unfortunate, ambitious, accomplished and experienced woman will they put in her place? Until men are willing to be accountable for their own corrupt behavior, poor excuses for men like trump will always be in power.
